Thinking about S.P.E.W.
Hermione starts the “Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare” or s.p.e.w. because she feels very strongly about how poorly house elves have been treated. Ron and Harry reluctantly join and Ron (until quite far along in the books) makes little remarks here and there that makes it obvious that he believes elves quite enjoy their enslavement to wizards. Think about both Ron and Hermione’s points. Which side did you lean towards while reading the books? After the books were over did your view change? Think about a time in your life in that you were able to stand up to something you disagreed with and try to make a change. What things do you feel strongly about that you would be willing in the future if need be to stand up for or against?
