"Listen"

I was thinking more about the message in this painting today.
Maybe instead of why don’t you hear "me" It could be why don’t I hear you or why don’t I hear myself ?
I should take my own advice
and “actually listen” to what other people are saying instead of what I want to hear.
Have you ever heard an echo of something someone was trying to say but sadly hours later?
I decided to listen without my preconceived ideas and everything suddenly clinked into place,
And now I get it...and I feel so silly.

Winter
I found a poem I wrote in mid September and thought it was fitting
for all the wintery times lately-it was inspired from real life...

“Wasp”
The last remains of summer bit me today
hidden in a box
dusty and tired
with still enough life
left to sting
leaving me with one last surge of warmth
pulsing spreading
trying desperately to hold
on
before the winter comes
and
all goes
blank

Cornerboys
Expression and creation is what life is all about to me...it feels very human and meaningful to be able to bring what I do together with other creative people.

I was recently involved in a very fun collaboration with writer Jamie Ridenhour and musician Kevin A.Smith
Jamie wrote a poem called Cornerboys and asked me and Kevin to help bring his vision to life. Jamie narrated the poem and Kevin created and recorded the score for it.
I did all the visuals. My good friend Kelly McCormack helped photograph all my art and then Jamie put it all together in a flim of still images.

You can google "Cornerboys youtube Ali LaRock" to find it as well.
Enjoy!

Making Plushies is Fun!
I recently taught a class called "MisFit Toys" and really enjoyed sewing again. It's amazing what some thread, fabric, and odds and ends can do...
